Posted September 16, 2018 06:13:16 The developer behind popular Madden video game app EA Sports has lost a lawsuit against the iPhone and iPad manufacturer, claiming that Apple unfairly copied the design of his popular Madden mobile app.
The case comes as Apple faces increasing scrutiny over patent infringement claims from video game developers, and the latest in a string of cases involving video game apps being sued by Apple.
The complaint against EA Sports was filed in the Federal District Court in Denver, Colorado, on Monday.
It seeks to stop EA from infringing on its patent.
“I think the big takeaway here is that the patent trolls are taking aim at mobile apps and mobile game developers,” said Mark Coker, a lawyer at Hogan Lovells who specializes in patent cases.
“It seems that patent trolls have taken the game developers’ mobile game, and turned it into an Apple product.”
Apple has been doing this for quite a while.
It’s a common pattern, but they’re not going after the iPad as much as they are the iPhone.
Mr Coker said that Apple is also taking aim with other mobile games and services, like Netflix.””
It’s very sad for them, and it’s going to cause a lot of problems for Apple.”
Mr Coker said that Apple is also taking aim with other mobile games and services, like Netflix.
“They’ve taken aim at other content, like YouTube and Hulu and GameStop, which is what Apple does,” he said.
“This is another example of Apple’s patent trolling tactics.
They’re going after all kinds of different platforms.”
Mr Madden’s game was created by Justin Lee, an independent game developer.
Mr Lee said that after EA’s lawsuit against him, he received death threats.
“There’s not much you can do about that,” he told ABC News.
“Apple’s lawyers have been calling me constantly.
I just got a text message saying, ‘We’ve got a lawsuit, don’t get out of here’.”
Mr Lee says he was also contacted by law enforcement.
“After EA’s suit, I got death threats,” he added.
“When I got to my house I was shocked.
I had no idea that that was going on.”
The threats kept coming, and I just kept my head down and just kept playing.”‘
We’re not getting a fair shake’In response to the lawsuit, Apple has been accused of patent trolling.
The company, which has more than 3,400 patents on mobile devices, has been sued in at least seven different countries and has won a number of cases against rivals like Google.”
This is a moral battle. “
This isn’t just a legal battle.
We’re just trying to protect our livelihoods.”
